About the Orrery
The sky is bigger than your screen.
The Orrery opened in 1966 with a single projector, a handful of chairs and an astronomer who loved the Moon.

Since 1966
A hill, a dome and a very dark sky.
We sit above the Sonoran desert, where the nearest city light is forty miles away. Our 220-seat dome shows the whole sky at 8K, our observatory lets you look through a 36-inch telescope, and our science hall lets children feel what gravity does to a marble.
- A 220-seat 8K full-dome theatre
- A working 36-inch research telescope
- A hands-on science hall for all ages
What we do
Three things we care about.
Real astronomy
Every show is checked by a working astronomer and updated when the science changes.
For everyone
Relaxed shows, captioned shows, tactile models and tickets from $5.
Dark skies
We work with the county to keep the valley dark for stargazing.
In their words
What people say.
“My daughter looked through the telescope and saw Saturn's rings. She still talks about it a year later.”
Sophie L.Visited with family“The dome show made the universe feel close enough to touch. I forgot I was in a theatre.”
Daniel P.Stargazer“The relaxed session meant our son could enjoy it on his own terms. Thank you.”
